Australian Wooden Boat Festival – Februry 2017
Well, things have finally starting to settle after what I think was an incredibly successful 2017 MyState Australian Wooden Boat Festival!
Our community based organisation managed, yet again, to run a truly world class event. I am incredibly proud of what we achieved, and I want to warmly thank and congratulate all who helped put it together. It would not have happened without the tremendous contribution of Paul Cullen, our General Manager; our volunteer board; our management team; the wonderful Bronnie Hanson in the office; and of course, our marvellous and dedicated volunteers.
And of course, our Festival would not be what it is without the beautiful wooden boats that come along, and have pride of place. I know that countless hours of work went into making them all look ship shape, and pride of the crew of each vessel was evident. Thanks must also go to all of the others who took part, such as the commercial exhibitors; to those demonstrating the traditional skills in the shipwrights village; to the other exhibitors and providers; to the entertainers, and many others, all of whom contributed to the event.
It never ceases to amaze me how the wonder of wooden boats create such a marvellous atmosphere around the magnificent waterfront in Hobart, as tens of thousands of people wander about. It is truly rewarding for all of us to think that we played a part in managing to produce our Festival, and to provide our community with something in which they can have pride; and which provides so much happiness to so many people.
Long may it continue!
As to that, I am pleased to advise that the Board and management of our organisation are advanced in relation to plans for the Festival in 2019, and even 2021. We are also working on some exciting plans with respect to the Festival itself, but more news about that later!
I look forward to welcoming everybody back in 2019 for the next Festival!
